Graphic design for print is still alive and kicking even in the face of website design and marketing. Working from Exeter, Design Credo have been able to provide a rapid turnaround on a recent print and design job for Yorkshire based Techserv.

Techserv needed a revision of their covers which they use to present quotations for their high quality plasma, gas and water-jet cutting machinery. Digital printing now provides excellent results for short-run colour printing. For a job like this laminating the work adds to the quality and feel.

A big thanks again to Exe Valley Dataset for their rapid print turnaround using Xerox digital technology machinery. DesignCredo created the job using InDesign (CS4) and supplied the artwork using a PDF via email. Exe Valley, were able to create a true proof which was sent to the customer using the Post Office’s excellent Special Delivery service. This meant that the following morning Mike Cowley of Techserv had a proof in his hand and was able to give the go-ahead. In the interim an opportunity had arisen for Techserv to do a presentation to an important client. Design Credo asked Exe-Valley if the tight deadline was doable and we are pleased to say that again using ‘Special Delivery’ Techserv has the new covers.

Mike Cowley of Techserv says,

Many thanks for all your efforts. The covers were very well received at the presentation, they have given a much more modern and appropriate feel to our literature.

In the past such deadlines would not have been possible. However printing technology constantly changes and now that digital technology has filled a gap that offset litho. was not ideally suited to. Add to that the ability to deliver artwork as a single PDF file and good quality print can be both quick and affordable wherever you are in the country.

A big thanks to Exe Valley Dataset. Even in this day of digital speed I still get impressed. Christmas is always a time for prevarication for me, some may say my life is. I designed my company Christmas card weeks ago but was uncertain whether to get the print done.

Anyway a quick hit of the InDesign PDF button and the job was ready and sent via email at 12.39.

At 15.25 I received a further email to say that the print was ready, and you know it is rather good. A simple enough job, but with a large solid festive red that did alarm the printer. Even coverage though, nice 350gsm board, looks pukka.

All this isn’t rocket science of course but, sometimes I like to enjoy the ‘wow’ moment of it all working. This is probably another one for the ‘What Would Grandpa Make of This?’ test, I don’t know.

Now the difficult bit, signing and sending…
