Exeter based Design Credo have just launched the new website for long-standing client Yorkshire based Techserv Cutting Systems Ltd.

This website is a consolidation of two previous sites which of course entailed behind the scenes work such as 301 re-directs to ensure that existing traffic is not lost; initial stats show that viewing figures are very strong.

Integral to the site development has been the interviewing of both clients and members of the company. Thanks to both Karin Joehr and Karen Brookes-Ferrari for ‘coming up with the goods’.

Andrew Butler of Design Credo says;

Essential to any project such as this is to listen to the client, and if possible the client’s clients. This way one gets to the heart of what makes a company tick and what makes it successful.

The website brief is part of a much larger ongoing project including;

  • Thorough brand analysis
  • Signage and visitor centre appraisal
  • Photography
  • Print and PDF items
  • Stationery and supporting items
  • Video

As a part of this new website Design Credo have encouraged to forces on the customer-experience of the product; this is already reaping rewards. Case study fact sheets to be delivered either as print or as online PDFs have received strong positive feedback with potential customers educated about the scale of Techserv’s work.

Vimeo: The Innovator

Mike Friton is a freelance shoemaker, weaver, paper sculptor and innovator with over 30 years of experience at Nike. His innovations are responsible for many elements of athletic footwear that people wear today. Each of his crafts informs one another and he is constantly exploring the fringes of his field. Mike’s work is a great example of how non-traditional methods of exploring one’s craft can lead to unique end results.

If you have any questions or inquiries about Mike and his work, he can be reached at mikefriton@yahoo.com. or (971) 219-6552.

Lauberhorn Downhill in Summer

Hashima

In 2002, a Swedish filmmaker named Thomas Nordanstad created a documentary of the island along with a former resident, named Dotokou, who grew up on the island after moving there when he was 4 years old. It marks the first time Dotokou has returned to the island as an adult and he displays his emotions clearly, reminiscing on his past life. Nordanstad filmed this experience and named it Hashima, Japan, 2002.

Stuxnet: Anatomy of a Computer Virus

This is a fascinating story and another great Vimeo moment here discussing the Stuxnet computer virus.

Using kinetic typography this video offers;

an infographic dissecting the nature and ramifications of Stuxnet, the first weapon made entirely out of code. This was produced for Australian TV program HungryBeast on Australia’s ABC1

Developing the story further Ralph Langner discusses “Cracking Stuxnet, a 21st-century cyber weapon” at Ted.com

When first discovered in 2010, the Stuxnet computer worm posed a baffling puzzle. Beyond its unusually high level of sophistication loomed a more troubling mystery: its purpose. Ralph Langner and team helped crack the code that revealed this digital warhead’s final target — and its covert origins. In a fascinating look inside cyber-forensics, he explains how.
